On 10 September 2022 a panel on migration took place in the Artchitects’ Club in Sofia within the conference an international feminist meeting, which was organized by the Bulgarian feminist organization LevFem and Transnational Social Strike Platform (8-11 September 2022). Below you can read a slightly edited version of Siavash Shahabi’s speech within the panel. Siavash Shahabi is an Iranian political refugee, living in Athens and blogging at “The Fire Next Time”. 

Hello. I am Siavash, a political refugee from Iran. At the moment I live in Athens and have been there about 6 years. I wanted to talk about the situation in Greece, in Athens. 

Generally speaking, in Greece, the capacity of the refugee camps is just 17,000 refugees. Of course, the number of refugees in the region is much bigger. At the moment we start with Athens and immigration and asylum body wants to close the last camp in the city – Eleonas. In spite of the health situation in the camp, many of the migrants want to stay there because they have easy access to medical care, schools are near and access to any work. It is something that they cannot have access to, while they are living in other camps because all of them are so far from the cities and there is no proper provision of the services inside the camps for them, especially medical services.

Speaking about the other camps, I have to mention that most of the people that are living there come from the vulnerable groups, like pregnant women, mostly people from African countries. The majority of whom have been living in Greece for five or six years without documents.

La 10 septembrie 2022, în cadrul conferinței Întâlnire Feministă Internațională, organizată de organizația feministă bulgară LevFem și de Platforma Transnațională de Grevă Socială (8-11 septembrie 2022), a avut loc la Clubul Architecților din Sofia un panel pe tema migrației. Mai jos puteți citi o versiune ușor editată a discursului lui Siavash Shahabi în cadrul panelului. Siavash Shahabi este un refugiat politic iranian, care locuiește în Atena și scrie pe blogul “The Fire Next Time”. 

Bună ziua. Eu sunt Siavash, un refugiat politic din Iran. În prezent, locuiesc în Atena și sunt acolo de aproximativ 6 ani. Am vrut să vorbesc despre situația din Grecia, din Atena. 

În general, în Grecia, capacitatea taberelor de refugiați este de doar 17.000 de refugiați. Bineînțeles, numărul refugiaților din regiune este mult mai mare. În momentul de față începem cu Atena, iar organismul de imigrație și azil vrea să închidă ultima tabără din oraș – Eleonas. În ciuda situației sanitare din tabără, mulți dintre migranți doresc să rămână acolo pentru că au acces ușor la asistență medicală, școlile sunt aproape și au acces la orice loc de muncă. Sunt lucruri la care nu au acces, în timp ce locuiesc în alte tabere, deoarece toate acestea sunt atât de departe de orașe și nu există o furnizare adecvată a serviciilor în interiorul taberelor pentru ei, în special a serviciilor medicale.

Vorbind despre celelalte tabere, trebuie să menționez că majoritatea persoanelor care trăiesc acolo provin din grupuri vulnerabile, cum ar fi femeile însărcinate, în special persoane din țările africane. Majoritatea dintre aceștia trăiesc în Grecia de cinci sau șase ani fără documente.

Здравейте. Аз съм Сиаваш, политически бежанец от Иран. В момента живея в Атина и съм там от около 6 години. Исках да говоря за ситуацията в Гърция, в Атина. 

Като цяло в Гърция капацитетът на бежанските лагери е само 17 000 бежанци. Разбира се, броят на бежанците в региона е много по-голям. Насочвам вниманието към Атина, където органът за имиграция и убежище иска да закрие последния лагер в града – “Елеонас”. Въпреки лошото здравословно състояние на хората от лагера, много от мигрантите искат да останат там, защото имат лесен достъп до здравни грижи, училищата са наблизо и имат достъп до всякаква работа. Има неща, до които нямат достъп, докато живеят в други лагери, тъй като всички те са много далеч от градовете и в лагерите няма подходящи услуги за тях, особено медицински.

Говорейки за другите лагери, трябва да отбележа, че повечето от хората, които живеят там, са от уязвими групи, като бременни жени, особено хора от африкански страни. Повечето от тях живеят в Гърция от пет или шест години без документи.
