When many years ago I read for the first time James Morier’s novel “The Adventures of Hajji Baba from Isfahan”, I already knew that Iran is the country of poets, a land of roses and swallows, of graciousness and Eastern wisdoms and striking contrasts. I knew that it is a country, which has inherited the mighty culture of ancient Messopotamian civilizations. Its people has a 25 century old statehood, has passed through the hell of history, has outlived fearful foreign invasions, but has resisted and managed to preserve its original spirit, its national identity.

Când am citit acum mulţi ani pentru prima dată cartea lui James Morier „Aventurile lui Hagi Baba din Isfahan”, deja ştiam că Iranul este ţara poeţilor, pământul trandafirilor şi a ciocarliilor, a frumuseţii şi a înţelepciunii estice, a contrastelor remarcabile. Ştiam că e o ţară care a moştenit cultura puternică a civilizaţiilor din Mesopotamia. Ştiam şi că poporul ei are o statalitate de 25 de secole, a trecut prin iadul istoriei, a petrecut invaziile străine, dar a rezistat şi a putut să-şi păstreze sufletul specific, identitatea sa naţională.

Когато преди години прочетох за първи път книгата на Джеймс Морие “Приключенията на Хаджи Баба от Исфахан”, вече знаех, че Иран е страна на поетите, страна на розите и на славеите, на изяществото и на източната мъдрост, на поразителните контрасти. Знаех, че е страна, получила в наследство могъщата култура на древните месопотамски цивилизации. И още, че нейният народ е с двадесет и пет вековна държавност, преминал през ада на историята, преживял страховити чужди нашествия, но устоял и успял да съхрани самобитния си дух, своята национална идентичност.
