The Iranian expert outlines the necessary conditions for a fair and lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia

The senior expert of international relations Fereydoun Majlessi gave an interview to the Iranian media Azarpajooh on the issue of the renewed military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia and its implications for Iran.

Mr. Majlessi, what is your assessment of the latest situation in the Karabakh region? Will the current ceasefire last?

I believe that the Republic of Azerbaijan violated the autonomy of the Armenian territory of the “autonomous” Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh by annexing it.  I also believe that Armenia’s attack on the Republic of Azerbaijan at the time of that country’s weakness went beyond supporting the Armenians of Karabakh, and the occupation of 20% of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan was a clear aggression and the continuation of the occupation was illusory and foolish expansionism. Armenia should have understood that the Republic of Azerbaijan, with three times the population and three times the size, and wealth beyond these, will soon and gradually regain its rightful authority and will act on its “duty” to return its “occupied” lands.

Armenia, by understanding the facts and her interests, should have entered into negotiations with Azerbaijan much earlier, and should have used the mediation of Iran and Russia for finding a practical and fair solution. Therefore, the current ceasefire will not last unless a “practical and fair” peace agreement is signed.

Fereydoun Majlessi, expert în relații internaționale, a acordat un interviu presei iraniene Azarpajooh cu privire la reluarea conflictului militar dintre Azerbaidjan și Armenia și la implicațiile acestuia pentru Iran.

Dle Majlessi, care este evaluarea dumneavoastră cu privire la ultima situație din regiunea Karabakh? Va continua actualul armistițiu?

Consider că Republica Azerbaidjan a încălcat autonomia teritoriului armean al Republicii “autonome” Nagorno-Karabah prin anexarea acestuia.  Cred, de asemenea, că atacul Armeniei asupra Republicii Azerbaidjan într-un moment de slăbiciune pentru această țară depășește sprijinul pentru armenii din Karabah și că ocuparea a 20% din teritoriul Republicii Azerbaidjan este o agresiune clară, iar continuarea ocupației este o expansiune iluzorie și prostească. Armenia ar fi trebuit să-și dea seama că Republica Azerbaidjan, cu o populație și o suprafață de trei ori mai mare și cu o bogăție care depășește aceste proporții, își va restabili treptat autoritatea legitimă și va acționa conform “datoriei” sale de a restitui terenurile “ocupate”.

Armenia, înțelegând faptele și interesele sale, ar fi trebuit să înceapă negocierile cu Azerbaidjanul mult mai devreme și să folosească medierea Iranului și a Rusiei pentru a găsi o soluție practică și echitabilă. Prin urmare, actuala încetare a focului nu va dura mult timp dacă nu va fi semnat un acord de pace “practic și corect”.

Старши експертът по международни отношения Феридун Маджлеси даде интервю за иранската медия Azarpajooh по въпроса за подновения военен конфликт между Азербайджан и Армения и последиците от него за Иран.

Г-н Маджлеси, каква е Вашата оценка за последната ситуация в Карабахския регион? Ще продължи ли настоящото прекратяване на огъня?

Смятам, че Република Азербайджан наруши автономията на арменската територия на “автономната” Република Нагорни Карабах, като я анексира.  Също така смятам, че нападението на Армения срещу Република Азербайджан в момент на слабост на тази страна надхвърля подкрепата за арменците от Карабах, а окупацията на 20 % от територията на Република Азербайджан е явна агресия и продължаването на окупацията е илюзорна и глупава експанзия. Армения трябваше да разбере, че Република Азербайджан, с три пъти по-голямо население и три пъти по-голяма площ, както и с богатство, надхвърлящо тези размери, постепенно ще възстанови законната си власт и ще действа според “дълга” си да върне “окупираните” земи.

Армения, разбирайки фактите и интересите си, трябваше много по-рано да започне преговори с Азербайджан и да използва посредничеството на Иран и Русия за намиране на практично и справедливо решение. Ето защо сегашното прекратяване на огъня няма да продължи дълго, ако не бъде подписано “практично и справедливо” мирно споразумение.
